New Beginnings
Artist Statement
New Beginnings is a collection of artwork that depicts specific chapters of my life, some of which I selected to help raise awareness. Many of the images are created using multiple photographs that are digitally combined to create one image. This technique is called multiplicity. Multiplicity is a technique that has fascinated me since high school and helped inspire my love of photography and graphic design.
I am drawn to a dramatic tone of colors. Various colors are used to help convey the mood of my images. The use of dark intense colors depicts sadness while I use bright cool colors to express joyfulness. I enjoy creating narratives that catch the viewer's attention. Every image and series tells a different story. I try to portray the issues that many people are silently battling within my community. My personal experience with some of these issues allows me to appreciate the struggle within the trauma. It is my struggles that have helped me to become the person I am today. It is my hope that by revealing my experiences and by raising awareness about some of the struggles that my community faces, I can  help pay it forward.
I have been blessed to be able to have a vision and the ability to tell my story through my images. I am excited to have the opportunity to exhibit all my work and share my story and I am thrilled to see where life takes me next. On to New Beginnings.
Domestic Violence is Never Okay!
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Artist Statement
This exhibition is my effort to raise awareness about domestic violence and to help other survivors understand that they are not alone. Those of us who have experienced domestic violence should speak up. We have a voice and we can’t let anyone take that away. Through images based on actual events and creative designs, I am allowing my photography to be my voice. By sharing my experience I hope to highlight this widespread problem and help stop the violence.
Domestic violence is violence committed by someone in the victim’s domestic circle. This includes partners and ex-partners, immediate family members, other relatives and family friends.
The term ‘domestic violence’ is used when there is a close relationship between the offender and the victim. There is usually a power gap between them. The victim is dependent on the offender. Domestic violence can take the form of physical, sexual or psychological abuse.https://www.government.nl/topics/domestic-violence/what-is-domestic-violence
Domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of employment or educational level, race or ethnicity, religion, marital status, physical ability, age, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation. However, the burden of domestic violence is not shared equally across all groups, with women and many racial/ethnic and sexual minority groups being disproportionately affected. https://www.dvawareness.org/about-dv
